Responsibilities: supervise and support at least one full-time youth organizer who works with the Future of Tomorrow (FOT), a student-led organizing group with membership from two local high schools, working to improve and reform New York City high schools locally and citywide; supervise and support at least one full-time adult organizer who works with Cypress Hills Advocates for Education (CHAFE), a group of parents and residents of Cypress Hills working for education reform locally and citywide; provide direct support to FOT and CHAFE, including: outreach coordination; membership training; leadership development; campaign development and implementation; strategy formulation; coalition participation, particularly the Urban Youth Collaborative (UYC) and the Coalition for Educational Justice (CEJ); and strategic alliance development; coordinate and support CHAFE's Leadership Committee; support FOT and CHAFE to meet UYC and CEJ accountability expectations, and participate in Directors/Senior Staff meetings; participate in the Cypress Hills Management Team; develop strong collaboration among Cypress Hills departments and provide community organizing training to agency staff and program participants; support community organizing work agency-wide and activism in neighborhood by facilitating meetings of organizers throughout the agencys divisions; sponsoring neighborhood leadership conferences for leaders from CHAFE, FOT, tenant associations, block association, youth councils, etc; coordinating social action campaigns and budget advocacy agency-wide so grassroots groups are supporting each other and Cypress Hills and by working with Board and management team to bring grassroots leaders on to agencys Board and staff; manage Cypress Hills voter registration and Get Out the Vote efforts; write grant proposals and grant reports; in consultation with the Cypress Hills Executive Director, Director of Programs and Finance Director, draft budgets, monitor spending and modify budgets as appropriate; supervise graduate student(s). Qualifications: Masters of Social Work preferred; minimum of three years direct organizing experience required; some experience working with teenagers required; English and Spanish verbal and written skills required; a demonstrated commitment to social justice and belief in community organizing as a sound strategy for education reform and neighborhood rebuilding required.
